Inspire Aspire: GCIM Launch

Character Scotland recently visited Craigie High School in Dundee to deliver a session on the new Inspire Aspire: Global Citizens in the Making programme to around 130 staff and pupils.

Ayrshire violinist, Nicola Benedetti, has called for a stronger push on classical music listening in children’s lives.

This piece is written partly as a response to an excellent blog piece, A few thoughts about character education by David Didau, but also to communicate some observations about the wider discourse around character education in the UK.

A forward-thinking tech-focused school, opened in Silicon Valley in 2013 run and supported by alumni from companies like Facebook, Google and Uber is making waves in education by focusing on student-cantered learning controlled by technology.

Larbert High in Falkirk have secured a £3000 grant thanks to one of their Biology teachers to help buy a Crime Scene Investigation kit to get kids playing CSI with DNA.

A new project run by the Scottish Government and NHS in Glasgow has helped to halve smoking figures amongst 13 year-olds in the region.

Last week, a new organisation, Outdoor and Woodland Learning Scotland (OWL Scotland) was launched at the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh. Their aim is to get young people playing more outdoors whilst increasing their learning about nature and sustainability.
