Building on momentum

Character Scotland is funding a Pathway Project to build on the momentum gained by the recent conference. The purpose of the Pathway Project is to investigate the creation of a continuing forum for exploring and invigorating the broad and holistic purposes of education in Scotland, especially in terms of wellbeing, relationships, learning, empowerment and quality of life. The vision is for this to be a forum for dialogue, activity, learning, reflection and research that recognises children and young people as leaders and key agents of change in education and learning.

How can I get involved?

The project is calling on practitioners all over Scotland to contribute to this work by submitting evidence of relevant activity and practice. We are looking for evidence from a wide variety of organisations including nurseries, schools, youth groups, charities, community groups, colleges and universities. You can help by submitting evidence yourself or suggesting it to colleagues.

The purpose is to collate existing practices in Scotland that aim to have a positive impact on the broad and holistic development of children and young people and those who support them. We want to know about the activities and practices that are designed to support the development of the whole person (personal attributes and attitudes), AND the environments, structures and social conditions that nurture and sustain those developments.

What happens next?

The information gathered will be presented as part of an initial report to be launched in January 2016. This report, along with further dialogue and consultation, will inform the next steps of this work. It is also hoped that the launch of the report will assist future developments in policy and practice and will lead to support for further investigations and activities in this domain. The findings and evidence collated by the Pathway Project will be shared widely, including with Scottish Government and policy makers.
