Registration for the 'Character, Culture and Values' conference has been gaining momentum over the past few weeks with over 150 delegates and contributors now set to attend the two-day event. For those who have not yet registered, there is still time! The registration deadline for the conference is Friday May 22nd.

We are now very much on the final stretch in the lead-up to the event. All keynotes, seminars and workshops have been finalised – for those interested, you can view the session descriptions here. We will be confirming seminar choices with delegates once registration closes.

This conference aims to provide a platform for wide-ranging and creative discussions focussing on how we can best support young people to deal with the complexities of life, learning and work in the 21st Century. Those in attendance during the event will unpick the concept of character and values education and the idea that all of us have a role to play in working out 'who we are' and 'who we become'.

The event has been curated by our Executive Officer, Gary Walsh, with the support of an advisory group involving Education Scotland, GTCS, SQA, Improvement Service (COSLA), Scottish Youth Parliament, Keep Scotland Beautiful, CBI Scotland, Investors in People, University of Glasgow and the Jubilee Centre in the University of Birmingham. Keynote speakers include Dr Avis Glaze, Prof Marvin Berkowitz, the Bishopbriggs Community Ambassadors and Josh Littlejohn. Participation in the event comes at a grant-subsidised fee of £90 for full registration or £50 for day registration.

As we approach the '1 month to go' milestone, Gary said:

"It has been such a pleasure to engage in dialogue and enquiry with colleagues to explore the many ways in which character, values and citizenship education are relevant in Scotland today.

"I really hope that this unique event lives up to the level of potential and expectation around it, and that it can help to shape the way forward."

We would encourage anybody reading this to share the conference brochure with friends and colleagues who may be interested in attending as a delegate. Please also complete and share the pre-event survey below, open to all young people and colleagues.
